Naturopathic and Holistic Healing

Our bodies are particularly good at maintaining health and balancing all the stress that our lifestyles, environment, and diet can cause us. However, at times, this can become too much, and illness sets in. This usually starts off as an acute condition and if our body cannot resolve the situation, it ends up a chronic condition which interferes with our comfort and sometimes our ability to live a normal, satisfying, and productive life.

Naturopathic healing primarily aims to identify and address the factors that led to illness. The approach is usually holistic in that it addresses the general health of an individual rather than the illness in isolation. It is about working with the body to promote healing and improve symptoms such as pain, functional decline and so on, rather than simply suppressing symptoms and disease processes. The most common products used include herbs and supplements, dietary and lifestyle programs.

Conditions that may respond well to the naturopathic approach include:

  1. Childhood conditions

    1. Frequent infections

    2. Behavioural issues

    3. Allergies and asthma

  2. Adult conditions

    1. Hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol

    2. Reflux and irritable bowel syndrome

    3. Cold extremities, fatigue, and weight issues

    4. Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    5. Seasonal allergies and chronic sinusitis

    6. Autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis

    7. Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis

    8. Skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, and varicose ulcers

    9. Anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders

    10. Premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, PCOS and menopause

The intention is not to replace modern medicine, but to help you gain better control of your symptoms, quality of life and overall health. If you are taking medications, one goal might be to bring you to the point that allows you to have discussions with your doctor about reducing and ceasing medications.

Our naturopath prescribes treatments and gives advice in an ethical manner. Products such as supplements and herbs are only prescribed if there is a clear need for them. As mentioned earlier, the aim to help your body recover full health, not displace pharmaceuticals and the role of your medical practitioner.
